Process
During the first semester, students will be exposed to empathetic observation strategies where they will participate in simulated patient admissions and observe rounds with a health care team. We will also interact with various stakeholders in health care. For example, students will explore the patient experience from the perspective of hospital administrators, physicians, nurses, patients, family members, architects, etc.
During the first part of the second semester, students will use background material and experiences to develop innovative ideas on how to make the experience better. For the completion of the course, students will work with the University of Utah Hospital and potentially implement one or more ideas into the hospital environment and begin to measure the intervention effect.
